MILKWEED EXILE OF THE SONS OF UISLIU

Experimental folk duo Milkweed have revealed their newest track, ‘Exile of the Sons of Uisliu’. The track is, as you’d expect from Milkweed, is an expansive blend of sounds that range from innocent snippets of lo-fi folk to deep electronic beats and blasts of dissonant sound-collage. The track is “one of many remscéla, or pre-tales, leading up to the Táin. In the text,  Derdriu, ‘the loveliest woman in all Ireland’, has been raised in isolation until she is ready for the bed of Conchobor, high king of Ulster. Derdriu falls in love with Noisiu, one of the sons of Uisliu, and together they escape to Alba where they again find themselves in peril. They are lured back to Ulster by Conchobor, but are ultimately betrayed.” Remsćela, the band’s new album, drops on May 2nd, 2025, via Broadside Hacks Recordings. It’s a musical experience that needs to be absorbed in full. -Dan Peeke
